The core collection in the Teich Archives, acquired by the Lake County Discovery Museum in 1982 and subsequently transferred to the Newberry in 2016, is the industrial archives of the Curt Teich Company of Chicago, which operated from 1898 to 1978 as the world’s largest printer of view and advertising postcards. Correspondence, business records, photograph lists, sales figures, expense accounts, and personal journals kept by Robert D. Ellis, who was a travelling photographer for Curt Teich & Co. from September 1956 through the early 1970s. His company was called Ellis-Sawyer (partner was Dick Sawyer) and they took many photographs of the American West for the company.
